Expected Monthly Pay: $800/month plus housing

The following Q and A is with Tim and Jenn from their team:

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church?
Our church is in a season of strong growth.  After being portable for 15 years, we moved into our first permanent facility in December 2021 and we are excited to see all that God is doing in our community and through our church.  Over the next couple years, I expect us to continue to connect people to Christ and help them take steps in their faith.  Our kids and student ministry will continue to be a strong connection point for families and our practical teaching from the Bible will help adults grow closer to God in their everyday life.  Our online presence will continue to expand to help people around the globe experience Jesus.

Why did you choose to do a residency & what do you hope will happen through this process?
We believe that working in a thriving, local church is the greatest way to impact eternity.  So, we want to help people who are called into vocational ministry develop to be highly effective leaders and communicators of the gospel.  We hope that the residents that come through SouthPoint are challenged, learn, ask questions, grow and make an impact.

What is it like to work on staff there?
Working at SouthPoint is really incredible and really hard.  Anytime you want to be part of something of significance, it also takes sacrifice.  SouthPoint Church is making an impact on our community and in eternity.  We work hard and strive for excellence; We build and lead teams; and we don’t take no for an answer.

Does your church’s website state the mission, vision, values and key distinctives of your church? Please paste the link:

SouthPoint Church’s 5 Values (southpoint4u.com/values):

  1. Jesus is a big deal

  2. Everyone is loved and welcomed

  3. Everyone has a next step

  4. Life is better together

  5. We’re contributors not consumers

Please describe the current staff structure.
SouthPoint Church is led by Matt Hall, our Lead Pastor.  He planted SouthPoint in 2005 and has been the Lead Pastor for the entire time.  Our executive leadership team consists of Tim Wiesemann (Executive Pastor), Jenn Curtis (Family Ministry Pastor), and Kyle Squire (Campus Pastor).  We have all been on staff at SouthPoint for at least 10 years.  We each oversee multiple full-time and part-time staff that run sections of the ministry.  There are currently 12 people on staff at SouthPoint Church.

What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church?
SouthPoint staff is fun and adventurous. You must be able to carry your own weight, be a self-starter, not be afraid to take risks, and not take yourself too seriously.

Who will the resident report to?  Will there be a different person acting as coach?
Production Resident will report to Tim Wiesemann

Student Ministry Resident will report to Jenn Curtis

Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people?
Historically we have used the Leading From Your Strengths assessment as part of the interview process.  We are also using Enneagram more recently in interviews.

Are you affiliated with a particular denomination or tribes/association of churches? If so, what websites could one investigate to gain further understanding?
No.

What are the key doctrinal and theological issues where alignment is essential?
SouthPoint tends to be conservative in our theology but broad-minded in our methodology.  You can find our theological stance on many topics on our website: southpoint4u.com/beliefs.

What is your average weekend attendance?
1,100

In general, what is your church demographic?
Our church, like our community, is largely made up of families with young kids.  There is a large base located here, so most of our community is currently in the military or working to support the military.  Other than that, it is a fairly rural, waterfront community.

Is there more than one site or venue? If so, please describe.
We are one site.  In December 2021 we moved into our newly constructed 22,000 sq ft building.

How many conversions has your church had in the past 12 months? (however you define this and whatever you count)
Baptisms are probably the most definitive way to count this at SouthPoint and in the past year we have had 150 baptisms.

What percentage of people are involved in a small group?
SouthPoint has about 50 active small groups with 600 people involved.

What is your church known for in the community?
SouthPoint Church is known as a place where anyone is welcome.

How much are you planning on financially compensating your resident?  Is it set or is it flexible?
We are planning on $800 per month per resident plus housing the resident in a host home.

What are the expected work hours and what does a typical workweek look like for this resident?
Most staff are off on Monday and Saturday.  Some “office” hours are required for administrative tasks but we also encourage our staff to be meeting with, recruiting, and developing their volunteer teams.  Many evenings can be filled with meetings, events, and ministry, so daytime hours have some flexibility accordingly.
