Expected Work Hours: 30 hours per week
Expected Monthly Pay: $1,650/monthly

Our staff is fun, loves to eat, laugh, and help each other. Our leadership is solid, this is a great place to live, and the church is primed for continual growth. There is a palpable sense God is doing something special here. We’re excited for the opportunity to pour into future residents. We pray that God would lead you to the right place to serve and grow. — Tom Harrigan, Residency Director

Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process?
We see a significant decrease of those going into full-time ministry and we’re committed to develop the next generation of men and women for Kingdom Impact. Our hope is to help develop and sharpen the relational, spiritual, and emotional tools needed to be effective in whatever field God is calling them to serve.

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church?
We want to help people look, live, and love like Jesus. We want lives to be redeemed by Jesus, for relationships with God to be restored into an ongoing and growing walk with Him, and for a renewed purpose in every individual for community and kingdom impact.

We want to grow in our ability to disciple all ages with environments including, but not limited to, worship, small groups, local outreach, personal evangelism, and serving opportunities both inside and outside our campus.

What is it like to work on staff there? We work hard to create moments of learning, laughing, encouraging, and challenging each other in every aspect of our lives.

Please describe the current staff structure.
OCC is a staff-led, Elder governed church that follows the Acts model of leadership and empowerment of the body of Christ.

  • Our Elders serve as shepherds to the staff and church, devote themselves to prayer, and ensure that we are doctrinally sound in whatever we do.

  • Our Lead Teaching Pastor serves as one of our Elders.

  • Our Executive Pastor leads the day-to-day operations of the staff and church.

  • Our Executive team set policies and decisions that guide the overall direction and culture of the church.

  • Our Ministry Leadership Team consists of leaders of our worship, student, children, adult, and outreach departments.

  • Our support staff plays a vital role and is comprised of full time and part time workers who help carry out the mission of reaching the lost and making disciples.

What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church?
We look for people who are developing a Christ-like Character, have a certain level of Competency in their given ministry area, and have good Chemistry with the existing staff. We want people who are teachable, relational, humble, and love a good staff scavenger hunt, a bowling outing, or a spiritual retreat where we get extra quiet time with God.

Who will the resident report to?  Will there be a different person acting as coach?
The resident will report to the staff member in the area they are serving.

  • Example: Student ministry resident will report to Student Pastor.

  • Coach: Tom Harrigan

Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people?
Yes, the DISC profile.

Are you affiliated with a particular denomination or tribes/association of churches? If so, what websites could one investigate to gain further understanding?
We are a non-denominational Christian Church. This means we are self-governed. Our church history is part of the Restoration Movement of churches.

What are the key doctrinal and theological issues where alignment is essential?
A motto for the Restoration Movement is: In Essentials, Unity, in non-essentials, Liberty, in all things, Love. Our beliefs can be viewed here: https://www.owensboro.cc/beliefs/#belief-2

We have a VERY large footprint in the community for outreach and recovery groups.

We value flexibility and trust people to get their work done. Our office is open Monday - Thursday but ministry tasks and relationships can cause, and often force, flexibility of scheduling. We want to ensure that everyone is making family a high priority, getting enough rest, and has margin to unwind and have fun.
