Expected Work Hours: 20-40 week (PT or FT available)
Expected Monthly Pay: $20-22/hr + housing + benefits (at FT)
The following is a Q&A with Senior Pastor, Allen Gallaway:
What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church?
We are excited to continue building upon a renewed vision of a foundation of discipleship for emotional health. Within a relatively short timeframe, we are witnessing a deep transformation within the church core that is now beginning to extend into the greater community. We are prayerful and in faith believing that our family of faith will positively impact the families and neighbors within the Valley.
Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process?
It’s our hope to provide a supportive environment where residents can not only experience practical ministry leadership but build a personal foundation for long-term emotional health. It’s our desire to help residents grow in their gifting while establishing a strong footing to discern God’s calling.
What is it like to work on staff there?
FCC Napa is a family environment. We are purposeful in supporting one another through the various phases of life while encouraging and challenging one another to follow Jesus day by day. Our staff is focused on being both spiritually and emotionally mature – we believe these are inseparable. We are growing to understand that the greatest gift we can give to others is a healthy authentic self.
Does your church’s website state the mission, vision, values and key distinctive of your church?
Please describe the current staff structure.
Senior Pastor – Allen Gallaway
Senior Associate Pastor – Justin Miller (Worship / Local Missions)
Senior Associate Director – Jan Hanson (Family Ministry – birth thru high school)
Director of Student Ministry – Doug Wilson (middle school and high school)
Director of Discipleship & Community – Julie Polson
Assistant Director of Celebration Arts – Katie Perez (part-time)
Ministry Assistant – Jill Spragio (part-time)
What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church?
We believe that we “win” when we are living out of the overflow of God’s grace in our lives. This means that we prioritize a “slowed down” spiritual rhythm for life. It’s at the heart of our scorecard for success.
Who will the resident report to? Will there be a different person acting as coach? What do you know about their personalities (enneagram, DiSC, Strength Finders, etc.) Have you given thought as to what type of personality will work best with them?
Yes, there will be a supervisor and a separate coach for residents. We are still determining the structure; as of publishing this information, Jan and Doug will fulfill these roles. Current Staff have completed several personality assessments over the years. We have found that we typically refer to the DiSC as a coaching resource.
Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people?
In addition to the DiSC assessment, we will onboard with an internal evaluation assessment for emotional health. This resource flows into our core discipleship/ leadership strategy for the entire community.
Are you affiliated with a particular denomination or tribes/association of churches? If so, what websites could one investigate to gain further understanding?
We are historically aligned with the Independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ. We are non-denominational. However, today we are a more interdenominational community. This means that not only do we have members from various church and non-church backgrounds, we also have staff and elders from various denominational backgrounds.
What are the key doctrinal and theological issues where alignment is essential?
Egalitarian – women able to lead in all leadership roles
Contemplative – living from a “slowed down” rhythm of life
Continuations (spiritual gifts are still active today)
Classical Christian view of marriage and relationships
What is your average weekend attendance?
200 (all ages)
In general, what is your church demographic?
College educated with a mid to high income status.
Multigeneration mix of older and younger white with an increasing percentage of Hispanic/Asian islander.
Parents have a high value for education and school activities.
Most adults are working in hospitality, education, or health care, in addition to small business ownership.
Is there more than one site or venue? If so, please describe.
Only one site at this time.
How many conversions has your church had in the past 12 months? (however you define this and whatever you count)
We define conversion through baptism, there have been 7 over the last 12 months.
What percentage of people are involved in a small group?
25% of Total adults are in a group, 44% “members”.
What is your church known for in the community?
FCC Napa is known as an “anchor church” within the Napa Valley. The church was established in 1857 with a few families and circuit riders as preachers in the beginning days of the church. As the area developed, so did FCC Napa. Through the years, the ministry has seen seasons of great growth and pruning. Now 165+ years later, FCC Napa looks to build upon its long history and continue to provide a strong biblical foundation for a new generation. One that is intentionally designed around a faithful spiritual and emotional discipleship that matures the whole person.
How much are you planning on financially compensating your resident? Is it set or is it flexible?
It’s flexible based on PT or FT; we are open to either. Our current range for this resident position is $20-$22 per hour with the possibility of benefits (full-time).
What are the expected work hours and what does a typical work week look like for this resident?
The typical week for ministry staff is Sunday through Thursday. Though our main office is “open” from 9am-3pm Mon-Thurs., ministry staff have great flexibility in when / where they are working. Note that all staff are expected to be present at two weekly meetings (staff prayer on Monday / general meeting on Tuesday) and participate in a staff monthly solitude day.
What else would you say to a resident considering joining your team?
Napa can be described as an “upscale farming community.” It represents many of the attributes of a “small town” with a strong interest in the “finer things of life.” Though Napa is an international “brand” with a high volume of weekend visitors, it has been able to maintain that “hometown” feel for residents. Napa is a wonderful place to live and raise a family - great schools, activities, and pace of life.
