understanding genz

Sometimes it doesn’t take three hundred words to make an excellent point.

Recently at a Masterclass in Cincinnati we were discussing how to understand young leaders/GenZ/twenty somethings and high school pastor Mike Shelley had the perfect answer.

If you are struggling to understand GenZ perhpas here is a new way to think about them:

Understanding GenZ
by Mike Sheley, Middle School Pastor
Mount Pleasant Christian Church, Greenwood, IN

We have to see Gen Z as a different culture - especially those of us who are Boomers, Gen Z, and even Millennials.

When we think cross-culturally, we go in as learners and students, not as the old experts trying to get them to do it “our way” - or as we think “the right way.”

And just like cross-cultural workers, it doesn’t mean we have to 100% do everything their way or not stand up for things.

However, we’ll be a lot more generous with showing grace and a lot more careful on where we stand firm.

We need to be cross-cultural workers with growth mindsets who are generous with grace.

We love that.

We can be better than Don Draper…
