chris hupp : my leadership pathway

As Chris began his residency at Life Community Church in Hilliard, OH, he says, it was important for me to build relationships and prove that I belong and prove to myself that I made the right decision. Today, he is continuing to build those relationships but is not as intent on proving himself, but rather living out being a Christ follower and sharing Him with others.

Chris Hupp is in his first year of residency, serving as a Family Ministries Resident, from Pre-K-High School, currently lead small groups, preparing for their summer Honduras missions trip, and also serving on the worship team for weekend services. I think I am exactly where I am supposed to be. This experience is positively changing me to be closer in Christ and developing my qualities to be with the body of Christ.

Leadership Pathway was able to point Chris toward a residency that would provide him the experience needed with a safety net from dedicated leaders alongside him to help catch him and not let him quit but fail forward and grow him in his leadership capacity along the way. An added bonus was that the church was nearby Ohio Christian University, where Chris is completing his Christian Ministries degree.

Chris admits that challenges are part of the equation in residency. The most difficult thing that comes to mind is setting boundaries for myself and keeping those boundaries. I love thatthis is what I get to do, and I love everything that LCC has me doing, overworking myself can be easy and burning myself out can come swiftly.

He’s learning that being intentional in engaging in conversation with others can open doors to learning others’ gifts and attributes, which ultimately, is a great way to speakthat in others and help them grow in their relationship with Christ. This process takes time and patience, which are two areas that I need to grow in.

Anyone contemplating ministry should know that it will be challenging, but you will not be alone. There will be people surrounding you and guiding you to grow deeper towards Christ. Thepotential that you have is like no other, and that is because God’s power is like no other, and you bear His image.
