Dustin Doescher : My Leadership Pathway

Growing up, I was able to lead in multiple areas, mostly in Boy Scouts. In college, l led Bible studies and small groups and served on the leadership team for the University of Colorado Boulder’s campus ministry. I now serve as a Student Ministry Resident at Rocky Mountain Christian Church, not far from Boulder.

I chose ministry because I love students, and I wanted to have an even greater opportunity to serve and teach them about Jesus. I believe I am currently on a pathway to full-time ministry.

There are definitely days that are super hard, but they do not feel impossible, and I still get to have a lot of fun spending time with students on a regular basis. I’m learning that small, random details are super important for things to go smoothly, and connecting with students who are new to the church have had its challenges with Covid, but I’ve been able to adapt and make the most of the opportunities.

In the months ahead, I hope to gain more experience in all of the different parts of student ministry, whether that is leading small groups, meeting one-on-one, or teaching from the stage. I long for more experience to continue growing and getting better.

I’ve also enjoyed getting to encourage students interested in a future of ministry, helping them out by giving them opportunities to lead others and to serve.

If I was sitting at the table with senior leaders wondering about residency, I would say that having residency at their churches is a really good idea because it can help various ministries at their churches grow, while simultaneously raising up the next generation of church leaders.

I’m Dustin Doescher, and this is my leadership pathway.
